Look at a lit candle through a straight plastic pipe: you see the flame clearly. Bend the pipe into a curve: the flame disappears completely! Light travels strictly along straight paths. This phenomenon is called the rectilinear propagation of light.
- Virtual Image: The image cannot be projected onto a paper screen; it appears to be located behind the glass.
- Erect: The image is upright (top stays top, bottom stays bottom).
- Equal Size: The size of the image is strictly identical to the size of the object.
- Equal Distance: The image is formed at the exact same distance behind the mirror as the object is in front of it.
- Lateral Inversion: The right side of the object appears as the left side of the image, and the left side appears as the right side.
